Technology Should Make Running Your Business Easier

You did not start your business because you dreamed of spending five hours trying to configure a piece of software that should have taken ten minutes.

You also should not need to understand every technical term, memorize every system setting, or decipher a set of AI-generated instructions that somehow leaves you more confused than when you started.

That is where Kopf Consulting comes in.

We provide backend technical support for entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and small teams. From websites, CRMs, and email marketing systems to automations, funnels, and integrations, we help make sure the technology supporting your business works together as seamlessly as possible.

More importantly, we give you someone you can turn to when you are unsure what to do next.

Someone who will answer your questions, explain your options, and help you make decisions based on what is best for your business – not what earns us the highest commission or keeps you dependent on us.

We do not simply set up your systems and disappear. We set up and stay to support.

Meet LaKenya Kopf

Hi, I’m LaKenya – the founder of Kopf Consulting and the person most likely to become overly excited when you show me a new piece of software.

My relationship with technology began long before drag-and-drop builders, cloud-based programs, and one-click integrations. I come from the era of DOS prompts, WordPerfect for DOS, and black screens waiting for you to type the correct command.

Technology has always made sense to me. Learning new systems still feels less like a chore and more like solving a puzzle.

My first freelance opportunity came in 2003 when I was asked to complete transcription work as an independent contractor. At the time, I was working three jobs and paying student loans, so the idea of turning down additional income seemed ridiculous.

What began as occasional side work slowly expanded into other freelance opportunities. I continued working full time, but my workaholic tendencies usually meant I was also attending school, working a second job, or finding some other way to keep myself busy.

In 2005, I began providing professional technical support part time as a PC technician at Circuit City, where much of my work centered on hardware installation and software support. Later, working as a Virtual Assistant introduced me to the digital marketing platforms and backend business systems that would eventually become the foundation of Kopf Consulting.

A Business That Could Move With Me

After becoming a military spouse, freelancing shifted from a source of additional income into a practical way to build a portable career.

Finding permanent employment was not always easy when employers knew another military move could happen within a few years. Instead, I worked with several virtual assistance and digital marketing companies while gradually growing my own business on the side.

The business was formally established as DEK Solutions in 2011 and later operated as DEK Consulting. After years of having to register the business again each time we moved, it officially became Kopf Consulting in 2017 when our family made its final military move to Massachusetts.

Kopf Consulting was not born from an elaborate business plan or a dramatic moment when I discovered a gap in the market.

I simply took something I had always been naturally good at – learning technology – and turned it into a business that allowed me to help other people feel more confident using it.

What Does a Certified Tech Manager Do?

A Certified Tech Manager focuses on the backend technology supporting your business.

That includes helping you choose, set up, connect, automate, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot the systems you rely on to attract leads, communicate with clients, deliver services, and keep your business moving.

Our goal is to create a technology stack that works together in as seamless a flow as possible – without requiring you to remain the manual bottleneck holding every step together.

We are not a traditional IT company focused on corporate networks and computer infrastructure. We are not web designers, and we do not provide general administrative virtual assistance.

We support the systems and software behind your customer journey and day-to-day operations.

You Do Not Have to Figure It Out Alone

Many of our clients reach out after spending hours trying to solve something themselves.

Sometimes the software is unfamiliar. Sometimes the instructions are overly technical. Sometimes AI has confidently produced twelve steps that do not match anything appearing on the screen.

And sometimes they simply want someone knowledgeable to say:

“Yes, this is the right choice.”

Or:

“No, you do not need to spend that much money.”

Our clients rely on us for technical work, but they also come to us for reassurance, recommendations, second opinions, and peace of mind.

Handing someone access to the systems connected to your clients, income, and reputation requires an incredible amount of trust. We do not take that lightly.

We want you to feel:

  • Supported when something goes wrong
  • Comfortable asking questions
  • Heard when you explain what you need
  • Protected when decisions affect your business
  • Confident that someone has your back

You never need to worry that a question is too basic or that you should already know the answer. The absence of information often creates unnecessary fear, so we explain what was completed, why it was done, and what happens next.

When helpful, we create video walkthroughs. When the first explanation does not make sense, we explain it another way.

Technology may be our area of expertise, but the business will always remain yours.

You Stay in Control

We do not create systems behind a locked door and remain the only person who knows how they work.

You retain access to and ownership of your accounts, systems, and information. Our goal is to support you – not become a gatekeeper between you and your own business.

Recommendations are based on your needs, comfort level, and budget. Sometimes that means using a platform we already know well. Other times, it means learning an entirely new system because it is the better fit for you – and we complete that learning on our own time rather than billing you to teach ourselves the platform.

You should feel supported while we work together and capable of moving forward if that working relationship ever changes.

Who We Work Best With

Kopf Consulting supports business owners at many different stages.

Some clients come to us before they have selected their first CRM or email marketing platform. Others come after years of adding tools, creating temporary workarounds, and building processes that no longer fit the way their business operates.

Whether you are building your first systems or trying to untangle the ones you already have, we meet you where your business is today.

I especially love working with new entrepreneurs. There is something wonderful about the excitement surrounding every early milestone – the first inquiry, the first client, the first payment, or the first time an automation works without anyone touching it.

Watching a new entrepreneur celebrate one of those first accomplishments never gets old. Their excitement is contagious, and it is an honor to know that something we built helped them reach that moment.

Established business owners bring a different kind of energy. They arrive with years of experience, hard-earned preferences, and a much clearer understanding of what is no longer working.

Sometimes the tools that once supported the business no longer fit what it has become. Systems may be disconnected, overly manual, outdated, or held together by temporary fixes that were never meant to become permanent.

The right answer is not always to replace everything. Sometimes it is better to repair what is already there, simplify the workflow, and leave the parts that are still working alone.

Regardless of experience, we work best with clients who value open and respectful communication, enjoy learning but do not want to spend all day figuring things out alone, and can laugh when technology decides not to cooperate.

We also work best with clients who respect professional boundaries and give us the trust and room needed to complete the work while remaining engaged in the decisions affecting their business.

We are intentional about the clients we accept because the best working relationships are built on mutual trust, respect, communication, and a genuine sense of partnership.

Giving Back Matters

Giving back is an ongoing commitment and core value of Kopf Consulting.

Each year, we support a variety of nonprofit organizations through financial donations, donated items, shared resources, and increased visibility. We also use our social platforms and year-end communications to introduce others to organizations and causes doing meaningful work.

Businesses have the ability to contribute more than services. They can also use their time, resources, and reach to support the communities around them.

Here are just a few of the MANY organizations we have donated to over the years.

A Little More About Me

I am a Southern-born military spouse, wife, mother, and self-described Type A introvert who once thought working remotely would allow me to stay in my own little bubble and avoid workplace drama.

Apparently, workplace drama knows how to use Zoom, too.

I occasionally found myself stepping out of my bubble to mediate conflicts between other people and help bring the focus back to the work. Running Kopf Consulting allows me to create the calm, respectful, and supportive environment I value for both myself and my clients.

Outside of technology, I enjoy archery, yoga, reading, cooking, exercising, spending time with friends, and watching hockey and football.

My team loyalties include the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, Florida Gators, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – which proves there is room for more than one hockey team in a person’s heart.
